With over 100, 000 types of fungi its no surprise that fairies, gnomes, woodland creatures, and people find the image appealing.  Recently studies show that although it is a plant, they "breathe" like humans.   You can check up on the science behind them... but we just appreciate their aesthetic pleasure.
